Semiotics

This photograph is split into four small images of Blackpool City with the black cat positioned in the centre of the photo. The signifiers are: words 'Blackpool', 'Good luck' and the cat. The word 'Blackpool' in the photograph is iconic as it is the name of the city. The expression 'Good luck' is arbitrary as the black cat in most cultures represents 'bad luck'. The four separate images are iconic signifiers as they feature places and monuments specific for Blackpool City, for instance the Blackpool Tower visible on one of the pictures.
